Seattle Sounders play the Portland Timbers in conference play
The match ends the stadium’s World Cup field run as Seattle tries to protect sixth place in the Western Conference.
On Thursday, the Sounders host the Portland Timbers at Lumen in a Cascadia derby, with the FIFA-laid grass surface scheduled for removal immediately after the match.
The Sounders currently sit sixth in the Western Conference with a 7-3-3 record, while Portland enters having mutually parted ways with coach Phil Neville.
Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer confirmed five players, including Yeimar and Alex Roldan, are sidelined with injuries; the club loaned Cody Baker to the New England Revolution for $125,000 in General Allocation Money.
Getting a win at home is critical, Schmetzer noted, as the team faces three consecutive road matches following this match, having snapped a 10-match winless streak against the Timbers in October.
Reflecting on the World Cup, Roldan said, "We did a really good job of creating that hope, that belief within the nation," emphasizing the need to channel that experience into MLS success.
