- Wednesday, the Hockey Hall of Fame said Ian 'Scotty' Morrison died in Invermere, B.C., at age 95, peacefully and surrounded by family.
- Morrison joined the NHL in 1954 after two years in the Western Hockey League, becoming the youngest referee at 24; he rose to Referee-in-Chief in 1965 and vice-president of officiating in 1981.
- During that game Morrison and Frank Udvari agreed the situation could be life-threatening, following a 10-0 Bruins rout at Boston Garden on April 2, 1969.
- He was appointed to the Hall's executive in 1986 by then-NHL president John Ziegler and became chairman and CEO in 1991, helping move the Hockey Hall of Fame to downtown Toronto.
- He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999 alongside Wayne Gretzky and Andy Van Hellemond, helped develop the 50,000-square-foot facility at 30 Yonge Street opened June 18, 1993, and the Hall did not provide a cause of death.
