Scottish newspaper editor David McCann charged over alleged indecent communications
David McCann, 43, was suspended by News UK after being charged with indecent online communications following a police search and court appearances in Edinburgh.
On Tuesday, 25 November, 2025 Police Scotland executed a search warrant at an Edinburgh-area property, charging David McCann, editor of The Times and The Sunday Times in Scotland.
He joined The Times in 2018 as news editor and rose to deputy editor the following year, then formally took over as editor of The Times in Scotland in July this year, succeeding Magnus Llewellin.
The 43-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 26 November, entered no plea, was remanded overnight and released on bail after appearing again on 27 November.
Owner News UK suspended David McCann from the business while saying the probe is unrelated to his work and adding 'We will not be making any further comment at this time.'
A standard prosecution report has been received by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as further examinations proceed.
