'As the World Turns' star Scott Bryce dies at 68 after cancer battle
The actor was best known for originating Craig Montgomery on the CBS soap and later appeared in dozens of TV roles.
- Scott Bryce, the veteran soap opera actor best known for playing Craig Montgomery on CBS' long-running "As the World Turns," died on Sunday at age 68. His agent, Ken Melamed, confirmed the death.
- Bryce had been battling Stage 3 esophageal and stomach cancer since 2024. His son, Jackson Bryce, wrote on Instagram that his father approached treatments with "pride and courage, and an unshakable belief that somehow, everything would work out."
- During his run as Montgomery, Bryce earned two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1986 and 1987. Beyond daytime television, he appeared in Blue Bloods, The Golden Girls, Popular, and Law & Order.
- Bryce is survived by his wife, Jodi Stevens-Bryce, and their son, Jackson, whom he called his greatest accomplishment at age 50. Longtime friend Lucie Arnaz and former co-star Finn Carter paid tribute this week.
- Born in New York City to actor parents, Bryce followed his father, Ed Bryce, into the industry. Beyond television, he worked as a theater actor and director, with credits including the 2010 movie Frederick Douglass, From Slavery to Freedom.
