MINNEAPOLIS AND SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA, JUL 8 – Two men linked to Mexican drug trafficking organizations were arrested after police seized nearly 900 pounds of methamphetamine worth about $1.7 million, officials said.
- Law enforcement arrested Guillermo Chaparro and Joel Casas-Santiago for first-degree meth sales after seizing nearly 900 pounds of methamphetamine in Minneapolis this week.
- The bust occurred after an undercover officer purchased one pound of methamphetamine from Chaparro on July 2, leading authorities to track and seize the drugs on Monday near 31st Street and Cedar Avenue.
- Officers found 251 pounds of meth in a Jeep and 638 pounds in a pickup truck, where they also discovered an alleged drug ledger, linking the men to a larger Mexican trafficking network.
- Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty called the amount of drugs recovered staggering and said the $1.7 million seizure could have caused devastating damage while funding community-preying drug organizations.
- Both individuals are currently detained at Hennepin County Jail and face up to five years of imprisonment. Their initial court appearance is set for Wednesday afternoon, as authorities continue their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations.
