Schwarber's 38th homer helps Philly keep streak rolling
Andrew Painter allowed one run in seven innings as Philadelphia scored 12 runs and stretched its winning streak to eight games.
The Philadelphia Phillies extended their winning streak to eight games on Saturday with a 12-3 rout of the St. Louis Cardinals, powered by Kyle Schwarber's MLB-leading 38th homer and seven strong innings from rookie Andrew Painter.
Since his July 31 recall, Painter has gone 2-0 in five starts; the Cardinals called up prospect Quinn Mathews after placing Hunter Dobbins on the injured list.
Bryce Harper hit his 26th homer, Edmundo Sosa added a two-run double in the first inning, and Alec Bohm recorded two hits while every Phillies starter had at least one hit.
Mathews struggled in his third August start, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits over five innings, though the lefty did record three strikeouts with Harper as the victim all three times.
In the series finale, Cardinals RHP Kyle Leahy will face Phillies LHP Cristopher Sánchez as Philadelphia seeks to extend its dominance.
