Reds' Bleday hits for cycle in 1st 4 at-bats against Diamondbacks
Bleday became the first Reds player to hit for the cycle on the road since 1915 and finished with his 21st home run of the season.
On Saturday, Cincinnati Reds outfielder JJ Bleday hit for the cycle in his first four at-bats against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
Bleday joins rare company as the first Reds player to hit for a cycle since Elly De La Cruz in 2023, with the only prior instance in 1989 by Eric Davis.
The outfielder completed the cycle in the sixth inning with his 21st home run, a career high, after doubling in the first, tripling in the third, and singling in the fourth against Arizona pitcher Zack Littell to secure an 8-2 lead.
Recalled from Triple-A on April 25, the 28-year-old earned National League Player of the Month honors in May, recording 25 RBI and eight home runs during that month.
His achievement marks the fourth cycle in the majors this year, joining Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Cubs, Bryce Harper of the Phillies, and Tristan Peters of the White Sox.
