Phantastic Performances: Phillies’ Shwarber Homers Twice in an Inning, Harper Hits for Cycle vs Mets
On Saturday, Bryce Harper hit for the cycle and Kyle Schwarber slugged three home runs, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 15-3 victory over the New York Mets.
Harper became the 11th Phillies player to hit for the cycle, while Schwarber's performance marked only the second time in Major League Baseball history a teammate hit for the cycle and another hit three homers in one game.
During an eight-run third inning, Schwarber crushed two home runs measuring 456 feet and 457 feet, while Harper completed his cycle in five innings with a two-run triple.
Harper's cycle ranks as the second-fastest in Major League Baseball history, trailing only Mike Lansing's 2000 performance, while Schwarber's third home run gave him a league-leading 28 this season.
Currently 7.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East, the Philadelphia Phillies conclude their series against the New York Mets Sunday before a seven-game road trip.
