- Johansson portrays Detective Julie Miller, an NYPD homicide officer who, thirteen years after apprehending serial killer Father Sunday, now faces a demonic force targeting her 12-year-old son, Max.
- Combining serial killer thrills with demonic possession, the cast features priests played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Laurence Fishburne as Flanagan aims to honor the franchise's legacy while creating a unique, standalone story.
- Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Entertainment are producing the film while Flanagan simultaneously develops a new 'Carrie' series for Prime Video, with the full trailer expected very soon.
