Drug Crisis: Sangrur Man Attempts Suicide After Alleged Inaction
Doctors said Jagjit Singh is undergoing treatment after consuming phenyl outside the district commissioner’s office, as opposition leaders blamed the state government over drug complaints.
- On Sunday, Jagseer Singh consumed a poisonous substance outside the District Commissioner office in Sangrur, claiming he faced assault for reporting illegal drug sales in his village, Namol.
- Jagseer had posted a video claiming drugs were available near his home, alleging that Sarpanch Sukhwinder Singh "Sukhi" Punia assaulted him and his family for speaking out.
- Villagers supporting the sarpanch contest the claims, stating Jagseer is involved in illegal liquor and drug sales and is named in at least seven to eight FIRs.
- After initial treatment at the Civil Hospital, Sangrur, Jagseer was shifted to Rajindra Medical Hospital in Patiala; SHO Yogesh Kumar stated police recorded the wife's statement and will take appropriate action.
- Questioning "Drug-Free Punjab" claims, Opposition leaders Partap Singh Bajwa and Bikram Singh Majithia targeted the government, linking the incident to cases in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's home district.
