Safe environment, sainthood causes and Sacred Heart on agenda for US bishops’ meeting
Bishops will also review abuse safeguards, sainthood consultations and liturgical texts as they prepare votes on several action items.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will gather in Orlando, Florida, from June 10–12 for their spring plenary assembly, where they will weigh revisions to the "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People."
Adopted in 2002 amid clerical abuse scandals, the Dallas Charter requires updates to address modern needs; the Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People seeks to balance sensitivity toward victim-survivors with due-process rights for the accused.
Alongside agenda items, the Bishops will consider canonization causes for Msgr. Joseph Francis Buh and John Rick Miller, while the Committee on Divine Worship presents elements of the revised "Lectionary for Mass" and the "2025 Roman Missal-Liturgy of the Hours Supplement."
On Thursday, June 11, the Bishops will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, marking the nation's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4.
Moving toward World Youth Day 2027 in Seoul, South Korea, the Bishops will discuss Church participation and the Synod on Synodality, alongside engagement with the Intercontinental Guadalupan Novena honoring the 500th anniversary of Marian apparitions in Mexico City.
