Sadiq Khan blocking Met's £50m Palantir deal was unlawful, High Court documents claim
Palantir says the veto was unlawful and seeks to force award of a contract worth up to £50 million after City Hall raised value-for-money concerns.
- In June, Palantir filed a legal claim at the High Court against the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime to overturn its refusal to approve a £25.3m contract for the Metropolitan Police, which the company's lawyers called an "unlawful veto."
- MOPAC blocked the deal, claiming the force failed to present its procurement strategy—a "clear and serious breach" of procedure—while City Hall objected to Palantir's "values and ethics."
- The Metropolitan Police sought the "Unified Operational Analytics" system to automate criminal investigations. Lord Pannick argued for Palantir that the company was the "best, and/or most economical" supplier with a robust selection process.
- At a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Mr Justice Constable scheduled a full hearing for January 2027. MOPAC confirmed it will oppose the action while working on a new, competitive procurement process.
- Palantir's UK chief executive claimed London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan is "putting politics over public safety," while critics raised concerns over the company's links to the CIA, the Israeli Defence Force, and co-founder Peter Thiel's donations to Donald Trump.
