In support groups that share experiences from the Battle of Okinawa, participants held repeated discussions to decide how to run the meetings. One group consisted of 12 survivors accompanied by their families. In May 2005, a total of 26 people gathered in a sugarcane field in the southern part of Okinawa's main island.
