Sabres Re-Sign Checking-Line Forward Malenstyn to 6-Year, $17.5 Million Contract Before Free Agency
Malenstyn gets a raise after setting a Sabres single-season record with 282 hits and adding 75 blocked shots last season.
The Buffalo Sabres re-signed forward Beck Malenstyn to a six-year contract on Monday, retaining the player two days before he was eligible for free agency.
Malenstyn, a sixth-year NHL player, spent his first four seasons with the Washington Capitals before Buffalo acquired him in a 2024 draft trade.
Last year, Malenstyn set a Sabres' single-season record with 282 hits while finishing second on the team with 75 blocked shots and scoring a career-high seven goals.
The new deal carries an average annual salary of $2.9 million, more than doubling the $1.35 million Malenstyn earned in each of his first two seasons in Buffalo.
This contract reflects the value the 28-year-old has brought to the Sabres in a secondary role, solidifying his position on the roster for the next six years.
