Ruturaj Gaikwad Replaces Injured Riyan Parag in India A Squad for Sri Lanka Tri-Series
Ruturaj Gaikwad steps in as vice-captain after Riyan Parag was ruled out with a hamstring injury, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, is also included.
On Sunday, the BCCI announced Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad replaced Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag in the squad for the upcoming tournament after Parag suffered a hamstring injury.
The 29-year-old Gaikwad assumes vice-captain duties, while Parag will undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre to recover from the injury.
Tilak Varma leads the team, featuring 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The white-ball competition against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan runs in Dambulla from June 9 to June 21, 2026.
Gaikwad's selection reflects a fast-track plan for the player, who has recorded one century and one half-century in nine One-Day Internationals. Previously, Kolkata Knight Riders' Anukul Roy was added to the roster after Harsh Dubey's senior call-up.
Following the white-ball competition, the team will play two long-form matches against Sri Lanka in Galle. The Board will announce the multi-day squad at a later date.
