Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones overnight, injuring at least 20 people
Russia launched 420 drones and 39 missiles striking eight Ukrainian regions, injuring about 20 people and damaging homes and infrastructure, as Geneva talks to end the war began.
- On Wednesday morning, a Ukrainian drone attack struck a fertilizer plant in the western Smolensk region, killing at least seven and injuring 10, authorities said.
- The Dorogobuzh plant produces ammonium nitrate and nitric acid, chemicals used for fertiliser that can also be used in explosives, and was previously attacked alongside its parent company Acron in December amid Ukraine's long-range drone campaign.
- About 30 drones hit the site around 290km from Ukraine, and Russia's Defense Ministry said it downed 14 drones while firefighters partially contained the blaze.
- Authorities dispatched environmental and industrial safety experts and may evacuate nearby towns to minimise risks, while schools and kindergartens in Dorogobuzh switched to remote learning and Kyiv has not commented.
- Earlier this week, a Ukrainian drone strike hit the Kaleykino oil pumping station in the Republic of Tatarstan more than 1200km from the Ukrainian border, prompting Transneft to cut crude intake by about 250000 barrels a day, as the war enters its fifth year.
