Rubio said only a handful of issues remain as the United States and India push to resolve trade and energy disputes, officials said.
- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday for a three-day visit to advance bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, and technology while pushing to finalize a near-complete India-US trade deal.
- President Donald Trump's recent waiver of sanctions on Russian oil imports eased immediate pressure; Rubio linked this decision to ongoing trade negotiations aimed at resolving tariff friction between the two nations.
- Rubio will visit the world's largest refining complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on Wednesday, signaling efforts to address business community concerns and explore deeper energy ties with Reliance Industries.
- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held bilateral talks with Rubio in Mumbai, after which both leaders attended a reception marking the 250th anniversary of American independence to demonstrate enduring diplomatic solidarity.
- Although officials suggest the trade deal is nearing a "landing point," both nations continue navigating complex challenges over market access and energy security to achieve a comprehensive bilateral agreement.
