Options presented at Cartwright Park design charrette - The Coastland Times

Summary
Cartwright Park Steering Committee members and the public gathered July 2, 2025 to review four bubble designs for Cartwright Park. Rachel Watson with CHL design, p.a., presented the diagrams for Cartwright that her design team developed. John DeLucia with Albemarle and Associates discussed design elements and answered questions. Anchoring the designs are the historic ruins of the first African Methodist Episcopal Zion (A.M.E. Zion) Church in northeastern North Carolina. DeLucia reported that ruins need to be made safe and vines removed. “We need to strengthen it so it doesn’t degrade,” said DeLucia. Rev. Dr. Donald Jones from the AME Zion Church spoke about collaborating with the Town of Manteo to restore the historic church ruins. “The Cartwright Memorial is very important to us,” said Rev. Dr. Jones.
