Stokes Says Decision to Leave Headingley Off Ashes Roster 'Shambolic'
Root said England have won their last seven Tests in Leeds and argued the ECB overlooked a ground with a strong record.
On Friday, England captain Joe Root expressed disappointment that Headingley will not host an Ashes test next year after leading his team to a crushing victory over Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs.
The venue has become a fortress for England, securing seven consecutive wins since 2018, including two crucial victories over Australia, making the omission from next year's schedule particularly frustrating.
Lord's, The Oval, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, and Southampton will stage men's Ashes tests in 2027, with Headingley excluded until 2029, though it will host a one-off Women's Ashes test.
Responding to comparisons with Australia's Brisbane fortress, the Gabba, Root acknowledged he should "stay in my lane," noting that venue rotation decisions are managed by others.
Incoming head coach Stephen Fleming arrives next month to begin his tenure, with Root focused on building momentum from his successful return to the captaincy role.
