3-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Inside Parked Car in Riverview, HCSO Investigating
Authorities say the child was found unresponsive in a parked vehicle and died after being taken to the hospital; no charges have been filed.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff deputies responded to an Emerald Shore Drive home in Riverview late Saturday after a father discovered his 3-year-old child unresponsive in a parked vehicle; the child was pronounced dead at St. Josephs Hospital South.
According to Kids and Car Safety, this is at least the eighth child to die in a hot car nationwide this year, with two cases in the Bay area including one in Winter Haven during March.
"This tragedy underscores a critical danger that we must never take for granted," Sheriff Chad Chronister stated, emphasizing that vehicles reach lethal temperatures within minutes.
No charges have been filed as of Monday, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff continues investigating; authorities have not disclosed how long the child remained inside the vehicle.
Amber Rollins, Kids and Car Safety executive director, urges parents to "Open that back door, check the back seat every single time you leave your vehicle" and keep a stuffed animal as a visual reminder.
