- On Wednesday, River Plate announced plans to add a roof and expand the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires to over 101,000 seats, launching the club's second major renovation in eight years.
- This year, construction will begin in April, taking approximately 36 months and costing more than $100 million to meet the 2030 World Cup schedule, the club said.
- By adding an extra tier, the club will add 16,000 seats, raising the current 85,000 capacity and positioning the venue as the second-largest behind Barcelona's Nou Camp.
- Di Carlo noted that long-term loans from international banks and a 10-year naming-rights contract will fund the project, and River plans to repay debt with revenue from sports events and musical concerts.
- With ties to past glories, the Monumental — site of the 1978 World Cup — Stefano Di Carlo called `It is a historic day` and thanked 350,000 members.
