The state of Tyrol, as the lead authority for the environmental impact assessment (EIA), has given the green light to the "Southern Lienz Connection" high-voltage power line project with a positive EIA decision. The €280 million project by Austria Power Grid (APG) involves upgrading the existing 220 kV line between the Lienz substation and Italy, according to a press release issued on Friday. The line is scheduled to be operational by 2031.
After four and a half months of negotiation, the renewal of the electricity-south link Lienz from Carinthia to South Tyrol was approved. It is planned to go into operation in 2031. The region and the tourist community, on the other hand, demanded an earth cable.
