Reform UK suspended four councillors after a leaked video showed heated exchanges and leadership disputes at Kent County Council, which holds 57 of 81 seats, party officials said.
- On Monday, Reform UK announced the suspension of four Kent County Council councillors and said the whip was suspended pending investigation, naming Paul Thomas, Oliver Bradshaw, Bill Barrett and Maxine Fothergill.
- Footage released Saturday shows KCC leader Linden Kemkaran berating backbench councillors and telling members to 'suck it up' while threatening to mute a councillor.
- Councillor Paul Thomas challenged the leadership, asking `Quite frankly, the question is&is that the right leader and the right cabinet?` while KCC's leader said avoiding a 5% council tax rise would be best for the council with its annual budget of more than £2.5 billion.
- She could face a vote of no confidence in the coming weeks over the leaked video, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, while Councillor Anthony Hook called Linden Kemkaran's position 'untenable' and said she is 'unfit to lead'.
- As the party's flagship council, Kent County Council is one of ten run by Reform UK and Kemkaran described the leak as an act of treachery with a thorough investigation launched.
