Former B.C. Minister Says He's Focused on Family, but Leaves Door Open to Politics
Ravi Parmar and Niki Sharma say the party and David Eby made the wrong call, after the Conservatives won 63 seats.
Outgoing Forests Minister Ravi Parmar stated the NDP "got it wrong" by calling the snap election, which resulted in a Conservative majority of 63 seats while NDP ranks dropped from 47 to 28.
Premier David Eby apologized at Wednesday's outgoing caucus meeting for the election call, where he "took full responsibility" for the party's defeat, according to former Attorney General Niki Sharma.
Describing the caucus meeting as reflective, Sharma noted a resolve to serve as the official Opposition, while Parmar rated the frustration level at the election call as "about 10, absolutely."
The New Democrats named former Labour Minister Jennifer Whiteside as interim leader, while outgoing MLAs like Sharma and former Cabinet Minister Josie Osborne are considered potential candidates for permanent leadership.
Former Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon opted out of the election to focus on his teenage son, though he is not closing the door on future political involvement.
