Before the rains of the last few days, reserves of the Algarve dams were at 34% of the total capacity. Recovery was most significant in the reservoirs of the eastern Algarve.
Speaking to Lusa, an APA source said that rains over the past few days “made it possible to recover water reserves in the Algarve region from 34% to 41%”.
Precisely one year ago, in January 2024, the Algarve experienced the most worrying situation ever in terms of drought, recalls the APA, which forced the Government to declare an alert situation and to adopt a set of measures to restrict consumption.
Three days of heavy rain brought the volume of water stored in the Algarve's six reservoirs to 45% of capacity, an increase of 62 cubic hectometres compared to the same period of 2024.
