- Tom Flores, a two-time Super Bowl-winning coach who played quarterback for the Oakland Raiders from 1960-66, granted his approval. Mendoza insisted he would only wear the number with the legend's blessing.
- "He deserves my blessing," Flores said of Mendoza. "He's perfect." Mendoza, the 11th player to wear the number since Flores, joked, "He's more handsome than me."
- Following the official announcement on Wednesday, the Mendoza jersey has already been on sale and "flying off the internet shelves." The team formally unveiled numbers for all 10 draft picks.
- While no player has had a substantial impact wearing No. 15 since quarterback Cotton Davidson from 1962 to 1968, Mendoza follows recent predecessors Gardner Minshew and Kenny Pickett.
