Nevertheless, the Russian side issued a clear warning at the highest political level about the "red line" in the event of strikes by Western long-range missile weapons to a strategic depth, said political analyst Alexei Pilko. Putin said that handing over the Tomahawks to Ukraine would be an “attempt at escalation.”
Ukraine has long been asking the United States to provide it with Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles and for permission to attack targets deep inside Russia using missiles obtained from other Western countries, including the United Kingdom and France. Putin also commented on EU and US sanctions and assured that they would "not affect Russia's economic condition".
Attacks on targets deep inside Russian territory using Tomahawk missiles or other long-range weapons would trigger a stunning response, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, according to the TASS news agency. He also called new US sanctions against Russia an act that does not strengthen relations between Russia and the United States.
