- On June 12, Goa Police registered a case against television actors Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma, accusing them of abducting and extorting Bengali filmmaker Shyam Sunder Dey in North Goa.
- The case arose after Malabika Dey, Shyam's wife, alleged he was forcefully taken in Goa on May 31, assaulted, tortured, and extorted under threat of false narcotics charges.
- Shyam, who was in Goa working on a script and traveling with his assistant in a hired vehicle, was abducted by a black car and kept at undisclosed locations until he was rescued on June 4.
- The FIR includes kidnapping, assault, extortion, and criminal intimidation, noting that Rs 23 lakh was paid under pressure out of a Rs 64 lakh demand, with phones seized and data threatened for misuse.
- Authorities transferred the case to Calangute Police, and the accused maintain they face financial fraud allegations while the victim has been asked to appear for investigation.

Goa Police said it received a Zero FIR from the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police, BDN Zone, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, West Bengal, following which an offence was registered at Goa’s Calangute police station on Thursday.
