The Venice Biennale has begun, with Estonia represented by painter Merike Estna. This year, however, the artists' works are overshadowed by politics, as the Biennale's management decided to allow Russia, accused of war crimes, to participate.
Controversy is mounting ahead of the biggest international art event of the year. This week, the Venice Biennale opens its doors for its 61st edition.
The pre-opening of the 61st Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, intended for artists, critics, royal families, delegations and similar important persons from the participating countries, was accompanied by the usual preview parties, as well as protests by artists and resignations of the jury.
