President Trump's granddaughter gets exemption to LPGA tournament
Kai Trump, 18, gains entry through a sponsor exemption due to her large social media following, aiming to introduce golf to younger fans at a top LPGA event.
Kai Trump received a sponsor exemption to play at Pelican Golf Club from Nov. 13-16, making her LPGA Tour debut at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge.
Given the LPGA’s use of sponsor invitations, Ricki Lasky said 'Sponsor invitations are an important way to spotlight emerging talent and bring new attention to our tournaments and the LPGA' as organizers cited Trump’s social media reach of over six million followers.
On the amateur circuit, she competes in the American Junior Golf Association and South Florida PGA’s Srixon Medalist Tour, finishing third this summer, and committed to the University of Miami next year.
The move sparked debate over fairness as critics argue spots go to players for family name or social media reach, while observers note Trump’s inclusion draws attention beyond golf.
As context for the field, The ANNIKA is the penultimate LPGA event that draws strong competition and will feature WNBA star Caitlin Clark in the Nov. 12 pro-am and defending champion Nelly Korda.
