Inside the Obama Presidential Center: A First Look at Chicago's Newest Landmark
The nearly 20-acre campus includes a library branch, public art and a museum with timed entry tickets and admission fees.
Media previewed the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago's Jackson Park on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, ahead of the $850 million facility's public opening on Juneteenth. The project chronicles the life and presidency of Barack Obama.
Spanning nearly 20 acres at 6001 S. Stony Island Ave., the campus integrates a museum, athletic center, and Chicago Public Library branch. Foundation officials reconnected the site to Jackson Park pathways to encourage community gathering and public engagement.
Visitors can explore exhibits including a replica Oval Office, Michelle Obama's dresses, and interactive 'We The People' installations. Museum admission costs $30 for adults, though most campus parkland remains free and open to the public.
High demand has sold out museum tickets until late August, though festivities continue through the grand opening weekend starting June 19. Organizers scheduled a star-studded dedication ceremony for June 18, which will be broadcast live.
The Obama Foundation expects the center to draw one million annual visitors, utilizing spaces like Tafari's Kitchen to foster local engagement. Programming throughout June and July will mark the country's 250th anniversary.
