- On Tuesday, Chris MacFarland left the Colorado Avalanche to become president of hockey operations and general manager of the Nashville Predators, the Central Division rivals announced.
- MacFarland spent 11 seasons with the Avalanche learning under team president Joe Sakic, and accepted the Nashville role to take on a bigger role while moving closer to his family, owner Bill Haslam said.
- The Predators have been searching for a new lead executive since Barry Trotz announced his retirement in February, with Nashville missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
- Joe Sakic will resume general manager duties for the Avalanche for the "foreseeable future," including overseeing this month's draft and the start of the league year, KSE vice chairman Josh Kroenke said.
- A finalist for general manager of the year, MacFarland was instrumental in the Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup championship, joining a Nashville franchise that has not won a title since joining the league in 1998.
