Alleged 'Ringleader' Pleads Guilty in Torture Death of Sam Nordquist
Arzuaga admitted to first-degree murder and other charges in the killing of Sam Nordquist, and prosecutors said she faces life without parole.
On Friday, Precious Arzuaga pleaded guilty in Ontario County Court to all charges regarding the torture and killing of Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old Black transgender man from Minnesota.
Nordquist traveled from Minnesota in September 2024 to visit Arzuaga, his online girlfriend, but was held against his will at Patty's Lodge in Hopewell. Investigators allege he endured months of "depraved" torture by Arzuaga and six associates before his death.
Kayla Nordquist, Sam's sister, traveled 11 hours from Minnesota to attend and called the hearing "the most awful thing I ever had to do." She expressed skepticism of Arzuaga's remorse, stating, "She wasn't guilty when she was raping him and beating him and starving him."
Ontario County Judge Kristina Karle scheduled Arzuaga's sentencing for Sept. 4, where she faces life in prison without parole. During Friday's hearing, the judge confirmed a federal investigation into Arzuaga's actions.
The remaining five defendants, including Kyle Sage and Emily Motyka, face separate trials scheduled for 2027. Linda Nordquist, Sam's mother, emphasized the family will continue sharing her son's story to keep his memory alive.
