Pope Leo: Palestinian state 'only' solution to Israeli conflict

On November 30th, Pope Leo XIV arrived in Lebanon carrying a message of peace and reaffirmed the Vatican’s backing for a two-state solution as the `only solution` for justice.
The visit follows a Turkey stop, the first leg of his maiden overseas trip since May as head of the world's 1.4 billion Catholics, framed by the `messenger of peace` theme.
Lebanon greeted him with full honours including a red carpet reception, a 21-gun salute, and two Lebanese military jets escorted the papal plane as he arrived in the Popemobile to meet President Joseph Aoun.
Hizbullah's Naim Qassem said on Friday he hopes Pope Leo XIV's visit will help end Israeli attacks, and Leo will meet President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam before returning to Rome on Tuesday.
The Holy See recognised a Palestinian state in 2015 and the two-state push gained new impetus this year amid the Israel-Hamas war, while Lebanese leaders hosting 1 million refugees fear escalation in coming months.
