Pope Francis' Coffee-Painted Portrait by Erguvan Art & Academy CEO Dr. Ali Karatay Presented at the Vatican
The artwork, made with coffee, reflects Karatay’s message of unity and was confirmed by the Pope’s Private Secretariat in a June 20 response.
Dr. Ali Karatay presented a coffee-painted portrait of Pope Francis to the Vatican, which the Private Secretariat confirmed in a June 20, 2022, letter acknowledging the artwork's artistic technique and meaning.
Karatay chose coffee as his artistic medium to symbolize connection and hospitality, transforming the familiar experience into a visual expression of unity that bridges cultural divides across generations and traditions.
"Art is one of the most powerful languages we share as human beings," said Karatay, who believes art can move beyond what divides people and reveal the shared humanity connecting all cultures.
Through more than 30 projects, the international movement Erguvan Art opened its first physical art center in Woodland, California, in August 2026, expanding its platform for artistic expression and collaboration.
Guided by the motto "Art Will Save the World," Erguvan continues to explore art's potential to inspire connection, healing, and peace across communities worldwide.
