Police Deny Reported Assassination Attempt on Lt Ahmed Yerima's Life

Police stopped a vehicle for a concealed plate and tinted windows, identified the occupant as a naval officer, and denied any attack or assassination attempt claims.

  • On Monday the Federal Capital Territory Police Command dismissed social media claims that officers attacked Lt. Ahmed Yerima during a stop-and-search at NNPC Junction and said no such incident was reported within the Federal Capital Territory.
  • On Sunday night reports alleged the officer was trailed by unidentified riders in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates, and a patrol team stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry.
  • The patrol team said the occupant of the Camry refused to identify himself, made several calls and rolled up his tinted windows before three naval personnel arrived and identified him.
  • For public safety, police advised Residents of the Federal Capital Territory to disregard unverified claims, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity to the nearest police division using 08032003913, 08068587311, and 08107314192.
  • The Command said it was surprised to find `maliciously crafted tales` and noted Sunday night reports linked the allegation to a naval officer who recently had a heated exchange with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
