WEST BENGAL, JUL 18 – PM Modi accused the Trinamool Congress of corruption and appeasement politics while affirming BJP's commitment to preserving Bengali cultural identity and heritage, officials said.
- Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Maa Kali and Maa Durga as symbols of Bengali pride, quoting `Jai Maa Kali, Jai Maa Durga` during his rally in Durgapur.
- This cultural initiative follows a long-standing push by the Bharatiya Janata Party, which will not allow any conspiracy against Bengali identity to succeed.
- In response, Mahua Moitra said, `Bit late in the day to start invoking Maa Kali for Bengali votes, PM She doesn’t eat dhoklas and never will.`
- Inside the Trinamool Congress, strategists plan to frame the narrative, `The prime minister says he wants development. But what does development mean? It means Mamata Banerjee and her government—Maa, Mati, Manush,` Kunal Ghosh said.
- Ahead of the July 21 rally, the Calcutta High Court directed processions to arrive by 8 a.m. or after 11 a.m., and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma said they will comply with the orders.

Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra took a jibe at Prime Minister Modi taking the name of Maa Kali during the rally in Durgapur and said that it is too late to take the name of the goddess for votes. Referring to PM Modi's 'Gujarati Dhokla', she quipped that Maa Kali does not eat Dhokla.
