Rescue bid launched as aircraft crash lands in sea off Welsh coast
Three lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter rescued two people after a microlight ditched into Cardigan Bay, with both reported safe and well.
On Friday evening at 6pm, three lifeboats and a coastguard rescue helicopter rescued two people after their microlight ditched into the sea 10 miles off Cemaes Head in Wales.
The forced landing occurred near Cardigan Island, an uninhabited nature reserve off Gwbert in south Wales, positioned close to the Cliff Hotel and Spa.
Rescuers handed the pair to the Welsh Ambulance Service, while Cardigan RNLI's D-class lifeboat simultaneously responded to a separate paddleboard incident that was later stood down.
Although both individuals suffered from cold water exposure, they were reported safe and well, with Milford Haven Coastguard alerting shipping to the aircraft's position at sea.
Separately, a pilot died Friday morning near Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon; Superintendent Jo Arundale of Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We recognise it is a very sad incident and we are appealing to the public not to speculate.
