Pictures show dramatic flooding in Austria – masses of water flood Vienna

The flood situation in Austria remains tense. While water levels in the capital Vienna are receding, people in the surrounding region are preparing for another day of heavy rainfall. The military is transporting sandbags in Black Hawk helicopters.

Rivers are causing extreme flooding in Vienna. People are trapped in their apartments and subway services have been suspended.

While the country, like the rest of Central Europe, is affected by severe floods, bad weather returns the artificial island that usually serves as a huge recreational area for Viennese to its function as a dike on which the safety of the city depends.

Austria was warned. But what the masses of water do exceeds all fears. Even in otherwise safe Vienna, the floods are raging.

Tense situation in the federal capital: West and South motorways had to be blocked, two subways have stopped operating in sections

The Vienna River, Danube Canal and Liesingbach overflowed their banks, and subway lines are partially closed until Wednesday.
