PHILIPPINES, AUG 5 – Electricity costs and rice prices led the inflation slowdown to 0.9 percent, the lowest since 2019, with rice prices falling 15.9 percent in July, Philippine Statistics Authority said.
- On Tuesday, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported that inflation slowed to 0.9 percent in July 2025, the lowest since October 2019.
- Aside from slower utility and energy costs, PSA data show rice prices fell 15.9 percent in July due to government measures like importation and tariff cuts.
- The transport index fell 2.0 percent in July, faster than June’s 1.6 percent drop, PSA said.
- The central bank could use the data to consider rate cuts, with the Monetary Board reviewing interest rate direction on August 28, as seven-month average inflation at 1.7 percent sits below the BSP’s 2 to 4 target.
- Going forward, the BSP said it will safeguard price stability and monitor emerging risks from geopolitical tensions, Romualdez noted the 0.9-percent inflation in July is the lowest this year.
