Petra De Sutter becomes new rector of Ghent University, she beats Rik Van de Walle by a large margin

Petra De Sutter is the new rector of Ghent University. She is leaving politics for good to lead the university. De Sutter won convincingly, in all constituencies. She received an average of 71 percent of the votes. Rik Van de Walle will therefore not succeed himself for a 3rd term.

Petra De Sutter will be the new rector of Ghent University. After a first round of voting, she won a large majority among students and staff. It was more exciting with the professors. “We were afraid to predict this outcome.”

The rector and vice-rector elections at Ghent University have been won by Petra De Sutter and Herwig Reynaert. The first round of voting ended today at 12:00.
