'Today' Host Peter Alexander Is Leaving NBC After 22 Years
- On Saturday, NBC News correspondent Peter Alexander announced his departure after 22 years at the network. The veteran chief White House correspondent and co-host of "Saturday TODAY" shared the news during the weekend broadcast.
- Alexander cited a desire to prioritize his two young daughters, Ava and Emma, after missing more than 200 Friday nights over seven years preparing for his weekend duties. "I'm eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives," he said.
- Seeking new challenges, Alexander will join MS NOW, the cable channel formerly known as MSNBC, where he will anchor the 11 a.m. weekday hour. His deal includes sports coverage contributions to USA Network and the Golf Channel.
- During his 22-year tenure at NBC News, Alexander logged 15 years on the White House beat and collaborated with Kristen Welker for three years as co-chief correspondent. He also covered major international events including Iraq's 2005 election early in his career.
- NBC News expects to rely on various staffers to fill Alexander's roles during an interim period before naming a permanent successor. Laura Jarrett, his co-host on "Saturday TODAY," will continue in her anchor capacity.
