Person hit, killed at gas station in Waterville

Michelle Bruce, 38, was struck and killed in a chain-reaction crash involving two vehicles at a gas station, police say the speed limit there is 25 mph.

  • On Sunday, Waterville police responded around 11:20 a.m. to a crash at 364 Main Street, where a pedestrian was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Waterville police said the initial investigation indicates a blue Subaru operated by Richard Moyen, 70, of Strong, struck a black Cadillac operated by Kenneth Hughes, 57, of Waterville, which then left the roadway and hit a vehicle at a gas pump.
  • Maine State Police assisted with crash reconstruction, no one was in Bruce's vehicle and no other injuries were reported, while a fuel pump on the west end of the lot remained taped off.
  • City and school officials announced closures and counseling resources following the incident; Waterville city officials closed Main Street between Waterville Commons Drive and Armory Road, urging use of I-95 or local routes, while Madison Elementary School and School Administrative District 59 closed schools Monday.
  • With the cause unclear, investigators continue crash reconstruction and inquiries; Waterville police said names are withheld pending next-of-kin notification, and no charges have been announced.
