Kalle Rovanperä and Jonne Halttunen and their team, the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, took the lead in the first stage of the 49th Rally Canary Islands-Rally of Spain, the fourth round of the World Championship (WRC).The Finn and his co-driver lead a ranking in which the formations of the official Japanese squad take the top five places.

The first stage of the Canary Islands Rally was a Toyota affair. Its drivers took the first five places after six special stages, with Finn Kalle Rovanperä leading the standings by almost half a minute ahead of another former world champion, Sébastien Ogier from France.
