A Person May Be Affiliated to IESS by Two Companies in Ecuador

When a person enters into a dependent employment relationship in Ecuador, the employer is obliged to join the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS). This obligation is established in the Social Security Act, which states that the registration must be made from the first day of work. In addition, the employer must send the notice of entry to the institution within fifteen days of the beginning of the employment relationship.

The proposal for a regulation on the social security system proposes automatic membership from the age of 18 to promote a preventive culture. In the face of this, the IPE warns that several factors are still needed to broaden the base of contributors.
