Pawan Khera Appears Before Assam Police Crime Branch
Police said they will file a chargesheet soon after questioning Khera over allegations he made about Riniki Bhuyan Sharma’s passports and foreign assets.
On Wednesday, Congress leader Pawan Khera appeared before the Assam Police Crime Branch in Guwahati for questioning in a criminal case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Following Khera's April 5 allegations that Sharma held multiple passports and undisclosed foreign assets, Sharma filed a complaint accusing him of forgery, defamation, and criminal conspiracy.
Khera underwent 11 hours of interrogation after the Supreme Court granted him anticipatory bail on April 30, directing him to "Appear before the police station as and when required and intimated."
Advocate Aman Wadud confirmed Khera was instructed to report to the station again Thursday morning, with police indicating a chargesheet will be filed soon depending on investigation progress.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed desire to conclude the matter quickly, while the Supreme Court previously observed the dispute appears rooted in political rivalry, echoing opposition claims of "case of vendetta.
