Reed Cruises to Victory in Dubai
Patrick Reed won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic by four strokes while remaining a free agent as LIV Golf contract talks continue with a season start in Riyadh approaching.
- On Sunday, Patrick Reed, 2018 Masters champion, said he is a free agent and has not finalized a LIV Golf contract after winning the Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai.
- While playing in Dubai, Reed said he avoids business talk during competition and limits contract negotiations to Monday–Wednesday, delaying finalization as his camp still unsettles wording.
- Financially, Reed aims to pay $1 million in fines to continue playing on the DP World Tour and pursue a Race to Dubai top 10, as he does not qualify for the Returning Member Program.
- LIV announced Jan. 14 it re-signed two-time major champion Dustin Johnson and indicated Reed would join the 4Aces, but Reed confirmed he has no deal; the PGA Tour reinstatement window closes Feb. 2.
- Earlier this week, Reed praised the PGA Tour and said he would consider returning, while Rory McIlroy warned the PGA Tour and LIV Golf are too far apart and Koepka reignited return talk by rejoining the PGA Tour on Jan. 12.
