Pati Patni Aur Woh Do review: Spririted Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara, Wamiqa, Rakul Preet make this comedy work
Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 released in theatres today with a 2/5 critics rating, introducing forest officer Prajapati Pandey and his journalist wife Aparna in Prayagraj alongside Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh.
Aziz has attempted to cash in on the same formula used in his 2019 Pati Patni Aur Woh, as Bollywood has repeatedly recycled the husband-wife-other woman premise since the original 1978 film.
A leaked photograph of politician Gajraj Singh's son triggers the plot when Prajapati falsely claims old college friend Chanchal is his 'girlfriend in order to protect her from the politician's goons,' spiralling into mounting confusion.
While Tigmanshu Dhulia delivers standout dry humour as the politician, Khurrana's performance echoes earlier roles in Dream Girl and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan; Director Aziz's runtime discipline under two hours could not compensate for formulaic direction.
Weak writing undermines the entire premise, with female characters like Aparna, Neelofar, and Chanchal existing primarily to fuel confusion rather than develop agency, despite the film's attempts to portray progressive Hindu-Muslim themes.
