Part of Wildfire Cordon Around Village in Cairngorms Lifted
More than 500 firefighters helped contain the blaze, while some roads and trails near Abernethy Forest remain closed for safety.
On Friday, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service lifted part of the wildfire cordon in Cairngorms National Park, allowing the C7 Ski Road, known as the Glenmore corridor, to fully reopen after three weeks of disruption.
Firefighters tackled the blaze since it began near Ryvoan Bothy on July 15, with more than 500 personnel deployed to combat the fire that has devastated an estimated 25 square kilometres of land.
Despite the reopening, Paul Hibberd, regional visitor services manager for Forestry and Land Scotland , warned that safety risks remain; some areas including the Green Lochan stay closed while crews manage unstable ground and hotspots.
Grant Moir, chief executive at the Cairngorms National Park Authority, welcomed the reopening as great news for local businesses, though community leader Sandy McCook remains cautious, noting the fire still burns underground in peatland.
Operations will continue focusing efforts around Abernethy Forest, where deep-seated peat fires persist, as authorities advise visitors to heed all signage and refrain from using drones in restricted zones for worker safety.
