The El Paraíso colony, in Iztapalapa, was founded on the pierced part of the Old Rock, also known as Del Marqués, an elevation that in the pre-Hispanic era was an islet in Lake Texcoco called Tepepolco, “the big hill”. For decades, the extraction of tezontle transformed its relief and left deep cuts where years later families from different states erected houses with cardboard sheets.
